Roots Architects - From Dub 'Til Now + The 18th Parallel meets Roberto Sanchez - Dub Avalanche Vol. 1 (Fruits Records)

By Jah Rebel

As if Roberto Sanchez weren't already busy enough with all the projects he's handling for A-Lone Productions, he's also working closely with Switzerland's Fruits Records. And right now, it's dub o'clock over there!

For ‘From Dub ‘Til Now’, Sanchez revisits the tracks from last year’s ‘From Then ‘Til Now’, the instrumental project for which producer Matthias Liengme teamed up with an elite collective of more than 50 top-tier Jamaican session musicians.

But the release that hits even closer to home for us is ‘Dub Avalanche Vol. 1’, a title that immediately promises more to come.

For this one, Roberto was given free rein to dig through the Fruits Records catalogue, resulting in a track list that includes outstanding dub versions of Dennis Walks’ ‘Long Struggling’ (retitled here as ‘Black Sun’), The Viceroys and Lone Ranger’s ‘Troddin’ On’ (‘Pothole Invasion’), the illustrious Mighty Gravillons’ ‘Crumbling World’ (‘Worldwide Confusion’), Cornel Campbell’s ‘Hold On’ (‘Stars Above’), and ‘Thrills’ by Swiss outfit I-Twins (‘Metamorphism’). These versions are complemented by roughly the same number of dubs we couldn’t immediately trace back to their originals.

Full-on dub avalanche straight from the Swiss Alps!
