Christos DC & The Ligerians - Sensability (SoulNurse Records/Honest Music)

After previous collaborations with Rod Anton, Chezidek, Nai-Jah and Nadia McAnuff, French band The Ligerians have now joined forces with Greek-American singer Christopher Vrenios, better known as Christos DC.

By Jah Rebel

The result is ‘Sensability’, an album steeped in the kind of rootsy, meditative reggae we often associate with the US Virgin Islands, stylistically in line with Christos DC’s two previous releases. Once again, The Ligerians prove themselves the perfect backing band.

A notable exception in the track list is ‘Refrain’, which features the voice of Tomawok. His French lyrics and distinctive ragga energy give the tune a very different flavour compared to the rest of the album.

Lyrically, we were struck by the highly topical ‘Destroy Or Create’, which includes lines such as:

Some they lead by division
Planting seed of aggression

And ‘Law Of Creation’ follows a similar line:

Man make war over land, give the people affliction
Over water and sand, leave behind no solution

Finally, the title track ‘Sensibility’ sums up Christos DC’s answer with a call for respect and awareness:

Act with sense
Act with sense, sensibility
Act with sense, respect and integrity

Thoughtful and enjoyable release, especially for listeners drawn to spiritual, meditative reggae.
