The seven-piece outfit - its name a fusion of “roots” and “Bosporus”, a natural strait and waterway connecting the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara and straddling the city of Istanbul - has been steadily building their sound since 2015, releasing an earlier EP and a full album along the way.
Those previous efforts slipped under our radar, so for now we’re having to make do with just ‘Quit’ and ‘Sunshine’, the two cuts featured here.
Both tracks ride the same slightly urban-flavoured riddim, but while ‘Quit’ is described by the band as “an introspective track about breaking free from toxic cycles and reclaiming inner strength.”, ‘Sunshine’ flips the mood, radiating warmth like a breath of light after a storm.
It’s too soon to fully pin down what Bosphoroots is all about, but one thing’s certain, we’ll be keeping them on our radar from now on, and we suggest you dig into their other material as well.
