Owl Trackers - The Bright Side (Culture Dub Records)

French producer Owl Trackers (Gaby Demange) first crossed our path thanks to his collaboration with Ksanti on the 2021 'Time Lapse' EP. With 'The Bright Side', he now presents his first full-length solo album.

By Jah Rebel

For the fifteen tracks on this album, which stylistically sit somewhere between ambient dub, instrumental dub and UK steppers, Owl Trackers collaborated with a wide range of guest musicians and vocalists.

With his pal Ksanti, Owl Trackers recorded the dreamy ‘Anahata’ (a term from Sanskrit meaning “unstruck” or “unhurt”, often associated with the heart chakra in yogic and tantric traditions), but we were mostly drawn to instrumental compositions like title track ‘The Bright Side’ or ‘Gentle Breeze’ (both featuring the mesmerizing flute sounds of Brussels-based multi-instrumentalist and dub producer Pijule), the delightful ‘Detective’ with trombone from American trombonist Mighty Bone, and ‘Rude Dub’ (an up-tempo stepper featuring the saxophone of French artist MoodSax).

Wonderfully diverse, at times almost meditative, album from a dub maker who clearly knows what he’s doing.

For Culture Dub Records, The Bright Side marks the 70th (!) release they’re offering as a free download, so no need to worry about the cost and definitely worth checking out!
