If, like us, you thoroughly enjoyed 'A Distant Beat', the album by Joe Yorke & The Co-Operators, then 'Sounds From The Fridge' will definitely be right up your alley!
By Jah Rebel
The title of this new album follows in the footsteps of ‘Rhythms From The Kitchen Sink’, The Co-Operators’ debut album from 2019, and both albums feature nearly the same roster of artists.
Of course, Joe Yorke is a must-have for this lineup, and he can be heard both in opener ‘Hard Road’ and in ‘Bitter Sweet’. Pupajim is known as the vocalist for Stand High Patrol, and with Dennison Joseph, bassist and vocalist for Talisman, the track list of ‘Sounds From The Fridge’ even features a British reggae veteran. However, names like Kitma, Perkie, and Rebekah and Bee are likely to be much less familiar.
We’d like to highlight a few of our personal favourites from the track list. Kitma’s ‘Nefarious’ immediately transported us to the musical universe where Hollie Cook also thrives. Meanwhile, Pupajim appears to capture the essence of the moment with ‘Why We Got’: “I keep wondering why we got… I keep wondering why we got… I keep wondering why we got to this point!”. Also noteworthy is the contribution of saxophonist Graeme Smith in the instrumental track ‘The Dog’. Finally, Dennison Joseph’s nyahbinghi-driven closer ‘More Fire’ stands apart from the rest of the track list.
Yet another outstanding release from the Waggle Dance Studios in Bristol!
Joe Yorke will be performing in the Dub Corner at Dour on Saturday, July 20th!
