Menig reggae- en afrobeatliefhebber zal zich ongetwijfeld al wel eens afgevraagd hebben hoe een muzikale kruisbestuiving van Fela Kuti en Bob Marley geklonken zou hebben. We zullen het helaas nooit te weten komen - al weet je met de ontwikkelingen van AI maar nooit - maar "zonen van" Seun Kuti en Damian Marley geven ons nu toch een idee met 'Dey', een eerste single van Seun's nieuwe 'Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head)' album, dat in de herfst van dit jaar moet volgen.

Wat het nummer zelf betreft, afrobeat bijgekruid met de Caribische invloeden van Damian Marley, voegt Seun nog toe: “It doesn’t matter where we are positioned in this world, very few African people receive notability; we are for the most part seen as the underdog. Therefor, this song is alla bout embracing and championing who we are. It is about human beings not having to be special, to be special. One thing I hate about the way the world relates to us, is that only special Africans are seen as human. This song is about how we are special and how we should not feel the need to constantly prove ourselves to anybody!”
