The Utopians - Look Around You (Badasonic Records)

Vorig jaar was er al ‘How The World Turns’, een eerste 3 tracks tellende EP, nu gevolgd door debuutalbum ‘Look Around You’.

De rocksteady en early reggae met een snuifje funk (‘Funky Monkey’) zou bij sommigen nog vage herinneringen kunnen oproepen aan het oeuvre van The Moon Invaders. Dat mag misschien ook niet verbazen want de ritmesectie van de band wordt gevormd door Arnaud Pemmers (bas) en Nico Leonard (drums), beiden eerder actief bij voorgenoemde band. Maar het was vooral het uitstekende orgelwerk van toetsenist Yoann Grudzien dat ons op ‘Look Around You’ in het oor sprong.

De oorsprong van de bandnaam wordt perfect gevat in de tekst van ‘Utopians’:

The Utopians komen ‘Look Around You’ live voorstellen op 27 april in de VK in Brussel, waar ze die avond samen met The Bandulus op het podium staan in het kader van BABA BOOM!
