BabbaJah - BabbaJah In Rejoice Studio (Vibe Generator Records)

As the regular voice for The Roots Corner Soundsystem, Brussels-based vocalist Arnaud Bastin aka Babbajah needs no introduction in the sound system scene.

By Jah Rebel

BabbaJah previously collaborated with, among others, Kingstep, Crucial Alphonso (with whom he recorded his first full-length album, ‘Love Is The Solution’, back in 2020) and Kaya from Jah Embassy.

For the follow-up to ‘Love Is The Solution’, this time BabbaJah joined forces with producer Kamiel Schollaert aka Jahmilka (formerly active with Leuven-based Mbegu Soundsystem and currently at the controls in his own Rejoice Studio).

The collaboration birthed ‘BabbaJah In Rejoice Studio’, an album in showcase style, comprising 4 vocal cuts and an equal number of dubs, supplemented with a lengthy disco mix in the form of opener ‘Wicked System’.

Jahmilka took the lion’s share of instrumentation and production duties, yet you’ll also hear Fusto aka Faust De Vogel on guitar. From Jah Embassy to Ionyouth Soundsystem is but a small step, thus it’s no surprise to find Jan Goyens contributing on binghi drum and percussion.

Highlights from the track list include ‘Hotta Fyah Burn’, allowing Faust De Vogel’s guitar ample space to shine, and closing track ‘Mighty Dread’, a solid UK stepper. Highly recommended for sound system heads!

For now, the album is only available digitally through Vibe Generator Records’ Bandcamp page. However, once 300 downloads are reached, BabbaJah plans to invest the proceeds in a vinyl pressing!
